Ms. McKinney practices primarily in the area of family law and is trained in the Collaborative Process of dispute resolution. She is a 2005 graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, where she served as an articles editor and the production editor of the University of Chicago Legal Forum issue on Family Law, and a 2002 graduate of Georgetown University, magna cum laude.

Prior to beginning a career in family law, Ms. McKinney gained extensive legal experience with businesses small and large, working both in-house with the family office of a closely-held real estate company and as an attorney in the corporate litigation departments of two global law firms. From 2005 to 2007, she served as law clerk to the late Judge Joseph F. Weis, Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She has also taught Legal Writing at the University of Pittsburgh as an adjunct professor.

Locally, she is a member of the Collaborative Law Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania ("CLASP"), the Pittsburgh Matrimonial Inns of Court, and the Allegheny County Bar Association's Family Law Section and its Collaborative Law and LGBT Rights Committees. Statewide, she is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Family Law Section and its Commission on Women in the Profession and its GLBT Rights Committee.

Ms. McKinney is a proud resident of the City of Pittsburgh and a lover of the arts. She serves on the Board of Trustees of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, where she is co-chair of the 2016-19 Strategic Plan. She is also actively involved with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and the Shady Side Academy Alumni Council. She enjoys running and practicing yoga and is a teacher at Amazing Yoga's Lawrenceville Studio.
